Former Columbus Chamber of Commerce Vice President Colin Martin officially announced his candidacy for mayor Thursday.
About 50 people attended the campaign kickoff on the steps of the City Services Center. Seven of those in attendance were elected city officials. Councilors Glenn Davis, Bruce Huff, and Gary Allen attended, along with Muscogee County Sheriff John Darr and Marshal Greg Countryman.
Martin says one of the issues he will address in his campaign is public safety.
“Crime prevention is not holding up a chart that says crime is down, it’s listening to people and addressing their fears. It’s fully funding public safety so we can have more police in the street, and having community policing,” said Martin
