Adoptable Georgia Dogs for January 10, 2014

Jimmy

Jimmy is a baby Lab mix (male) who is available for adoption from the Habersham County Animal Shelter in Clarkesville, Ga.

Joe Kewl Comp

Joe Kewl is a big old Coonhound, a beautiful tricolor or Treeing Walker Coonhound, full of energy. Joe is available for adoption from Homeward Bound Pet Rescue in Ellijay, Georgia. One of our personal dogs is a coonhound, and we highly recommend the breed – energetic, outdoorsy dogs who are perfect companions for a runner or active family, but as long as they get their exercise, they tend to be well-behaved couch indoor dogs.

Nathan

Nathan is a young pit bull with a soft side, about nine months old, who is available for adoption from K-9 Rescue League in Lawrenceville, Ga.

I’m a gentle, sweet loving boy and don’t have a mean bone in my body!! I’m crate trained and housetrained with supervision. I get along great with all my foster brothers and sisters, small, medium and large!! I even do well with cats. When I’m outside playing and mom calls me, I come running and will go right to my crate in the kitchen. As you can see by the pictures, I love to run around and play, but you can also see I have my quiet moments when I enjoying lying in our little hole. I also enjoy playing with toys.. I’ll even play with empty milk jugs!! I love going to Pet Smart on Saturdays because I have so much fun and get lots of attention but no one has fallen in love with me yet and adopted me. Mom can’t figure out why because she loves me and knows I would make a wonderful family member or loyal companion to that special someone looking for a best friend. If you’re interested in me, please email my foster mom at lizziz101@bellsouth.net.

Pit bulls are not an actual breed, but a characterization of a variety of dogs. Owners of dogs described as pitbulls or “Pibbles,” love their dogs dearly and are vocal proponents of the bully breeds. There are great resources on the web and locally for people who are interested in one of these dogs but want to learn more about responsible pet ownership or have safety concerns. There’s no shame in holding a wrong opinion, only in not educating yourself. Among the groups promoting pitbull education and adoption are:

Friends of the Forlorn in Dallas, Ga.

The Atlanta Underdog Initiative

Bella

This is Bella, the first GaPundit-affiliated rescue dog of 2014. She was saved by a reader from the Barrow County Animal Shelter where she was on the euthanasia list for this week. Without her savior, she would be dead today. There are some other beautiful dogs in desperate need of a home at Barrow County and in your local shelter. Please help if you can.

ZeusZeus is in urgent need today. He’s at Lowndes County Animal Shelter, but is beginning to show signs of coming down with a cold. A sick dog in a shelter will be euthanized immediately. Zeus is about four years old and gets along with children and adults. If you can help with a foster or permanent home, email me immediately, and we may be able to help arrange transportation and foster care support.
