Happy New Year!
Today, I officially filed my paperwork to run for the State Senate. I am running to give voice to the strong progressive values of our community on the issues that matter — strengthening our schools, promoting smart investments in transportation and protecting our families. Join with me in this movement to take Georgia in the right direction.
I am proud to be supported by many of my former colleagues in the House of Representatives, other elected officials, and other community leaders. Here is what some of them had to say:
“Elena Parent is smart, principled and public-minded. She was a respected, common-sense state Representative and will be an outstanding state Senator,” said former Ambassador David Adelman, who held this seat from 2002-10 before his appointment to serve as Ambassador to Singapore.
“Georgia’s students need Elena in the Senate,” said State Rep. Stacey Evans, the Democratic Party’s leading advocate for a healthy and efficient HOPE program. “She worked with me and Sen. Jason Carter to protect the HOPE Scholarship in 2011, supported bipartisan efforts to reform the HOPE Grant in 2012, and she will be the voice that we need in the Senate to replace Jason as we continue to preserve HOPE’s stature as the nation’s most effective scholarship and workforce development program.”
“Elena’s record on equality and issues that impact women and families is outstanding,” said State Rep. Karla Drenner, the first openly gay member of the Georgia Legislature. “As a mother of two young boys, Elena will fight for the rights of all parents in Georgia. Elena is experienced and will be a very effective leader in the Senate.”
This race is going to be a fast one – the primary election is May 20. I need your help to put together a winning campaign. Please contribute now to get us off to a strong start!
Here’s to a prosperous and exciting 2014!
All my thanks,
