POLITICAL NOTEBOOK: New House Rep. Chuck Efstration sworn into office | Gwinnett Daily Post

Gwinnett’s newest legislator was sworn into office late last week.

Chuck Efstration, who won the House District 104 seat in the Dacula area in a runoff earlier this month, was given the oath of office by Judge Billy Ray, a former Gwinnett senator who now sits on the Georgia Court of Appeals.

“It was an honor to take the oath of office Friday, joining the Georgia General Assembly,” Efstration said. “This event was all about the voters of House District 104 and the many supporters that made this day possible. Now it’s time to begin working on ways to improve the economy and foster private sector job growth.”

In addition to his parents and fiance Ashley Leachman, Efstration, a former county prosecutor now with a private law practice, was joined by several other local judges. In addition to Ray, the local legal eagles in attendance included Juvenile Court Judge Robber Waller, Superior Court Judge Warren Davis, Chief Magistrate Judge Kristina Hammer Blum and Gwinnett Bar President Chuck Ross.

Unterman leads hunger project

A Gwinnett legislator lead the state to win a 5K grant challenge from the National Conference of State Legislatures sponsored by Yum! Brands Foundation.

“This generous grant will assist with hunger relief in metro Atlanta and allow us to continue in our efforts to raise awareness of programs that fight hunger nationwide,” Sen. Renee Unterman, R-Buford said of the prize won in the NCSL Backpack Buddy Challenge.

Unterman is the co-chair of the NCSL Hunger Partnership, which challenged all 50 states to pack 1,000 backpacks of food for hungry children. Georgia, the host state, stuffed the most backpacks and won the $5,000 grand prize.

During the award presentation at the Georgia State Capitol, Senator Unterman announced two Atlanta-based non-profits as the recipients of a $2,500 hunger relief check; the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta and the Empty Stocking Fund.
