Ethics agency to debate ceding control to outside group | www.ajc.com

The embattled state ethics commission set a meeting on Thursday to discuss whether to cede control of all or parts of the agency’s operations to an outside organization in what experts said would be an unprecedented move.

Commissioner Heath Garrett said the proposal would “keep the agency operating effectively and restore some confidence that has been lost” in the wake of months of upheaval. He said it would likely involve hiring an independent group to oversee key operations of the agency.
