WASHINGTON — Georgia U.S. Senate hopeful David Perdue put in $1 million of his own money and raised another $810,000 through Sept. 30, in his first fundraising period as a political candidate.

The haul shows that the former Dollar General CEO is not shy about throwing his own money around, and he still raised about as much from other folks as Rep. Jack Kingston did last quarter.

The Perdue campaign told the AJC that it had $1.34 million cash on hand at the end of the month, and that Perdue — the cousin of former Gov. Sonny Perdue — gave $500,000 to the campaign as a contribution and another $500,000 as a loan.
