A veteran Savannah Chatham police officer’s sexual harassment complaint against then-chief Willie Lovett and a police captain apparently was the final straw in unraveling Lovett’s 40-year police career, documents obtained by the Savannah Morning News indicate.

Sgt. LaPrentice Mayes complained to city human resources officials on Sept. 20 that his wife, Detective Trina Mayes, “revealed to me she had an affair with chief Lovett and Captain (Cedric) Phillips paved the way for that tragic event to happen.”
