The Chatham County Republican Party held their annual GOP Awards dinner Saturday night in downtown Savannah. On hand for the dinner was Gov. Nathan Deal and first lady Sandra Deal.
Gov. Deal spoke to the crowd of more than 200 people praising the party for their local involvement and told the crowd that the deepening of the port of Savannah was an essential project for the state of Georgia to complete.
“I want to congratulate you at the local level for what you’re doing to promote Republican ideals and to strengthen the party. We have some great leadership here and that’s what it takes. It takes involvement on the part of many people to help our party remain strong and to grow,” Deal said. “My next step is to make sure we have as much money in the federal budget as possible and start the process of deepening the harbor.”
