GAINESVILLE – As the unofficial summer boating season draws to a close on Lake Lanier, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Rangers are gearing up for a big holiday weekend on the water next week.
DNR officials, as always, are urgings people who hit the lake to be careful and follow the laws.
Melissa Cummings, communications specialist with DNR said people should be aware of safety and the law before they get in the boat or on a watercraft.
“You certainly don’t want to just get in the boat and go out there without being familiar with safety tips and rules and regulations that apply out on the water,” Cummings said.
Earlier this summer, a new state law went into effect making the blood alcohol limit for people operating a vessel on the water the same as drivers on the road, .08.
“We always encourage people to drive their boats sober. You want to designate an operator,” Cummings added.
