Although many midstate students have said goodbye to summer vacation and already are hitting the books, the state’s back-to-school tax-free weekend is set for Friday and Saturday.
For parents looking to save a little money on last-minute school supplies, clothes and computers, several stores are offering sales to coincide with the tax-free days.
Tax-exempt items include clothing and shoes that are $100 or less per item, personal computers and accessories of $1,000 or less per item, as well as general school supplies that each cost less than $20.
But not everything is tax free. Among the items that still will ring up Friday and Saturday with a sales tax added to the bill are cosmetics, handbags, jewelry, cellphones, computer bags, digital cameras, televisions, computer games, DVDs/CDs, envelopes, medical supplies, and all books except children’s books, dictionaries and thesauruses.
