Another candidate has announced plans to seek the Ward 1 Canton City Council seat now held by retiring Councilman Bob Rush.
Bob Reilly, 51, an eight-year resident of Canton, said he plans to run on a platform of fiscal conservatism and no increase in taxes in the city election Nov. 5. Canton resident Sandy McGrew announced plans in May to seek the seat.
“I believe a budget of $23 million is a huge tax to cover our basic needs of police, fire, streets and debt of $40 million. I agree with Mayor (Gene) Hobgood to continue to look at ways to reduce expense,” Reilly said in making his announcement to run. “In addition, I would lobby to maintain current tax revenues over the next four or five years, as interest and inflation are low.”
