DSCC hits Ga. Republicans for Gingrey comments on gender roles – The Hill’s Ballot Box

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is seeking to tie other Georgia GOP Senate candidates to Rep. Phil Gingrey’s (R-Ga.) comments about traditional gender roles.

Gingrey, one candidate in a crowded Senate field, said on the House floor Wednesday that elementary schools should teach classes on traditional gender roles. Democrats have pounced on the comment as further evidence of what they alleges is the GOP’s “war on women.”

The DSCC will press Gingrey’s primary opponents on whether they agree with him in an upcoming press release. The targets: Reps. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) and Paul Brown (R-Ga.), former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel (R) and businessman David Perdue (R).

Democrats are hopeful that the GOP will nominate a controversial candidate in the Republican-leaning state and give them a shot at winning the seat held by retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.).
