Milledgeville Native Seeks Open Congressional Seat – 41NBC

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Milledgeville native announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for the open 10th Congressional district seat.

Stephen Simpson hopes to win the seat that is being vacated after Congressman Paul Broun announced in February he is running for the U.S. Senate in 2014.

“America is on the wrong track. We face a national debt that threatens national security, an administration incapable of telling the truth, and new big-government health care laws that burden businesses and hurt American workers,” Simpson said in a news release.

Simpson served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He worked at the Pentagon as an intelligence officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency and later for the Secretary of the Army in the office of Congressional Liaison.

“We are over-taxed, over-regulated and over-litigated and Georgia’s $72 billion agriculture business is suffered under the strain of excessive federal regulation,” Simpson stated. “I’m running because there’s a crisis of leadership in Washington, D.C. I’ve served by country before and I’m ready to serve again.”
