First candidate emerges in Temple election year – Times-Georgian: Local News

Temple’s City Council might be due for a shakeup this year as two of five councilmen and the mayor are up for re-election in November. The first potential new face emerged at Monday’s meeting.

John Garner, a 30-year-old teacher, attended the meeting and took notes. Garner lives in Ward 1, currently held by Terron Bivins, and said he intends to run for the seat.

“My entire life I’ve wanted to get into politics,” said Garner, who is married with three children. “I’ve always had the desire to serve my community and this gives me the opportunity to do so.”

While Garner said he feels the current council does a good job, there are some changes he’d like to make if elected. Bivins hasn’t decided whether to seek re-election, but Garner says he’ll run for the seat in any case.
