There is one less thing for the 2013 Rome-Floyd SPLOST Citizens Advisory Committee to worry about.
Before the group sat through a marathon four-hour meeting Thursday night, Rome City Manager John Bennett told them the City Commission has withdrawn a $14 million aquatic center and splash park from the list of proposals for funding through a 1-cent special purpose, local option sales tax.
“The whole thing turned out to be a lot bigger than we anticipated,” Bennett said. “So we decided to go back and reevaluate it.”
When the Commission first talked about the possibility of an aquatic park, they didn’t include a splash park, which was included to create some revenue to pay for maintenance and operations.
