Former Wilcox sheriff, others sentenced in inmate abuse case | Crime | Macon.com

Tears flowed in federal court Wednesday as four men, including former Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth, were sentenced for a 2009 assault on inmates and attempts to cover it up.

Bloodsworth’s hands and feet were shackled as he appeared in orange scrubs before U.S. District Judge Ashley Royal in Macon.

The letters spelling out “Jones County Jail” were barely visible on the back of the man who was a second generation Bloodsworth to serve as Wilcox’s top lawman.

“I’d like to apologize to my co-defendants and the victims for this ever taking place, for me going down the wrong path,” Bloodsworth said before Royal sentenced him to a total of 10 years in prison, which will include anger management courses.

Bloodsworth pleaded guilty last year to assaulting an inmate and conspiring to tell federal investigators another story.
