Washington Post: Gingrey will seek US Senate in 2014

From the Washington Post:

Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) is ramping up for a run at the open Senate seat in Georgia, according to multiple GOP sources in the Peach State.

Two strategists with knowledge of Gingrey’s plans on Thursday told The Washington Post the congressman is, for all intents and purposes, a candidate for Senate.

“I don’t know about any official announcements, but he’s going to run,” said one.

Another said Gingrey has hired top aides to run his campaign. “I think he’s all in,” said the strategist.

The Hill newspaper reported earlier Thursday that Tom Perdue, a strategist for retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), also said Gingrey has told people that he will run.

“I’ve just talked to two people that told me Phil Gingrey is actually calling them, telling them he’s going to run and his staff is telling people he’ll probably make his announcement sometime next week,” Perdue said. “He said it on a conference call with about 12 people.”
