A car that crashed and burned in an Alpharetta residential area gave a state senator and his family quite a scare.
The car, driven by 17-year-old James Robert Cobb II, careened into the yard of Brandon Beach about 3 a.m. Dec. 21 and caught on fire. Beach, a Republican state senator who represents North Fulton and Cherokee counties, said he and his family were jolted awake by a loud sound.
“My son looked out of his window and saw a car on fire and it was on its side in our yard,” the senator said.
Cobb’s 2002 Mercedes-Benz C320 was traveling eastbound on Mid Broadwell Road when it crossed the double yellow lines and left the roadway, according to a police report. The car struck a stone wall, came to rest in Beach’s yard and caught fire.
