Gov. Nathan Deal today appointed Raymond George and Stan Gunter to Superior Court judgeships within the Enotah Judicial Circuit, effective upon their swearing-in. George and Gunter will fill the vacancies of the Honorable David E. Barrett and the Honorable Lynn Akeley-Alderman, who resigned in March.

Raymond George
George is a sole practitioner in Dahlonega and has more than 20 years of trial experience, having also served as the Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Northeastern Judicial Circuit. He served two years as a Commissioned Officer in the Military Police and eight years as a police officer and detective with the Clarke County Police Department. Raymond volunteers as a guest lecturer at local colleges and high schools on law and government. He and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 32 years and have two sons, Michael and Andrew.

Stan Gunter
Gunter has served as the executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council since 2011. He is a native of northeast Georgia and served as the district attorney in the Enotah Judicial Circuit, which includes Union, Towns, White and Lumpkin counties, for 12 years. As district attorney, Gunter served on the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council and was president of the District Attorneys’ Association. Gunter and his wife, Rita, have been married 29 years and have two sons, Chase and Trey.
